Community Challenges
Let’s face facts. It is a statistical fact that a well run home owners association can help maintain and in some cases even improve home values in a neighborhood. However, in some neighborhoods the mere mention of the HOA brings blood to a boil in a hurry. When it comes to your neighborhood HOA and the value of your personal time, sadly we tend to forget the saying: “When granting authority to others who lack wisdom; It is seldom reasonable to expect the product of their efforts will ever amount to anything beyond the limitations of their intellect.”
Yes, we pay our dues each year. We have high expectations for the quality of living we think is owed to us by virtue of paying our fair share monetarily. But, what few realize (or do but lack the time given our busy schedules) is that an HOA needs smart people who are willing to work together with their neighbors for sake of the “community”. Where things start going south is when some come to power within an HOA who lack the ability to handle such responsibility in an intelligent fashion for the good of all.
So, can we have a show of hands please? How many of you out there want to embrace alternative energy, help our environment, and save money? Now, how many of you have hit an obstacle that stands in the way of your desires called “The HOA” and short-sightedness relative to your neighborhood covenants & restrictions?
It would seem when it comes to getting things done when you are under the thumb of an HOA, there is a right way, a wrong way, or if you have the wrong people in place “their way or nothing”. We want to learn of your experiences for the benefit of all. What home owners associations need to come to grips with is that when they blindly try shoving community covenants & restrictions that keep people from embracing alternative energy options that benefit their neighbors; they are in for an extremely rude awakening. Why? Because it then becomes “personal”. There are three things in this lifetime an HOA (or entity, or an individual) should never engage in: 1. Never mess with someone’s family. 2. Never mess with someone’s money. 3. Never believe for a second that #1 or #2 can be separated in the mind of those you are messing with.
We look eagerly forward to learning about your experiences on this topic. Alternative Energy is for the benefit of us all. What say you? Please login and share your experience and knowledge.
